Demand for MP3 players in China is projected to reach about 3.858
million units in 2004, up 117.3% from 1.775 million last year, according
to China¡¦s government-sponsored CCID (China Center of Information
Industry Development) via its Taiwan agent ICT (Information Communication
Technology).
The top-five vendors in the China MP3-player market in the first
half were HuaQi Information Technology (aigo-branded), Samsung Electronics,
Lenovo, Zarva and Vintion Electronic, said ICT. Strong sales of
¡§Patriot Moonlight Magic Case¡¨ MP3 players have helped HuaQi grab
a more than 25% market share, ICT added.
MP3 players with color displays have become mainstream products
in China since the second quarter of this year, ICT observed. Companies
including domestic HuaQi, Hong Kong-based Truly Electronics Manufacturing,
South Korea-based iRiver and Taiwan-based PenPower Technology have
launched own-brand color MP3 player products, ICT indicated.
ICT are forecasting demand for MP3 players in China will hit 18
million units by 2008, for sales of more than five billion yuan,
up from an estimated 2.78 billion yuan this year.
